Army Knowledge Online

Army Knowledge Online is the web-based information platform for the members of the U.S. Army. It is shortly known as the AKO. It’s also used by the Department of Defense customers to get information about networks. The use of AKO is simple as it provides plenty of things such as a portal, directory, and discovery.

To have access to Army Knowledge Online, you can either register or create a guest account. If you’re any of the following, you can have an AKO account without the need for someone sponsoring you.

  • Active Army
  • Army Reserve
  • Army Retired
  • DA Civilian
  • Medically Retired
  • National Guard
  • U.S. Military Academy Cadet

In addition to these, those who are a contracted ROTC cadet, DA civilian, and NAF civilian can have a full account, meaning the access to AKO isn’t limited.

On the other hand, guest accounts require sponsorship from someone who’s in the Army. If you’re:

  • Army Volunteer
  • Contractor
  • Foreign Officer who’s serving in the U.S. Army
  • Homeland Security
  • Incoming DA Civilian
  • Local National Employee
  • Medically Discharge
  • ROTC Cadet

you will need someone to sponsor you in order to get a guest account.

One of the most common reasons why members of the U.S. Army use the Army Knowledge Online is for Enterprise Email and communication. AKO is also used for providing certain information regards to certain topics such as training requirements. Although this is mostly handled on the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS), an AKO account can be used to log in.

Keep in mind that you can’t have access to AKO on any computer. You usually only will be able to have access to AKO on a base computer. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to use any functionality of the AKO at home. It is possible to make any computer ready for the use of AKO for Enterprise Email. Usually, this is done by plugging in Common Access Card (CAC).
